Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Commission adjourns for on-site tour of pools, parks and beach access repairs

The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Commission convened a special meeting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and adjourned to a staff-led tour of multiple city facilities and projects, Chair Winston said.

Parks and Recreation staff outlined the route, saying the commission would first visit Monroe Street Pool, then backtrack to inspect a beach access repair project, continue to Poinsettia Community Park to view its recently completed turf replacement, and finish at the Chase Fields complex, Pine Avenue Park and Community Centre, and the Senior Centre. Staff estimated the tour would return about 3 to 3:30 p.m., the staff member said.

The meeting included routine procedural items. Chair Winston read the Brown Act public-comment guidance at the start of the meeting and later cautioned commissioners about discussing city business privately during the tour. “Please let’s not violate the Brown Act ourselves by having private conversations with a majority of us, like on the bus or during the tour,” Chair Winston said.

There were no minutes or presentations on the published agenda, and no formal actions or votes were taken before the commission adjourned to the bus. The commission indicated it would formally adjourn the meeting from the bus after completing the site visits, the chair said.

The tour is part of the commission’s oversight and familiarization with current maintenance and capital projects; staff did not present project budgets, timelines beyond the day’s itinerary, or request votes during the session.
