Bennet council approves five-year U.S. Post Office lease renewal

Mayor Ryan Cheney called the Bennet City Council to order and re-introduced the U.S. Postal Service lease renewal, directing attorney Matt Blaser to review options and negotiate a five-year renewal with the Postal Service leasing agent.

After Blaser presented the lease options, the council asked him to negotiate terms and return with the negotiated lease at the February meeting. The council then approved Resolution 2026-1.2, authorizing a single five-year lease term for the Bennet post office; the roll call vote was recorded as YES: Josh Buck, Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons, Dan Zieg.

The action formalizes the council’s direction to proceed with a longer-term arrangement intended to maintain local postal services. The negotiated lease will be returned to the council for final consideration at the next regular meeting.
