Montrose County chair to step down; Copeland nominated as new chair and Sean Pond chosen vice chair

The Montrose County Board of County Commissioners reorganized its leadership during the July 15 meeting after the outgoing chair announced she will step down.

The chair told the board she is preparing to resign and noted the benefit of allowing a successor several months to get up to speed: "If I resign, a commissioner candidate can step into the role, can actually get up to speed and has at least 4 or 5 months to get acclimated to county government and transition into that role," the chair said. She added, "It's been an honor to serve the public. It's been a, a lifetime."

The chair then nominated Commissioner Copeland to serve as the new chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board also nominated and approved Sean Pond as vice chair.

Colleagues offered brief remarks thanking the outgoing chair for her service; one commissioner said the outgoing chair had been active in the community for roughly 30 years and praised her leadership.

The board recorded the leadership changes by voice vote and moved on to remaining agenda items.
