City staff updated council on the design‑build schedule for Fire Station 1 renovations and said contract milestones remain tied to contractor shop drawings.
The city’s project lead said the contract is design‑build and that staff provided specifications and a rough layout but the drawings have not yet been stamped by the architect or engineers. “Once those drawings are approved, that’s when the clock would start,” the staff member said, referring to the 300‑day contract duration. Staff reported foundations are scheduled to begin Feb. 11 and the contractor’s current schedule lists completion in August 2027.
Council members asked for more frequent updates; one council member requested a brief monthly status report so issues would not “mount up.” Staff said shop drawings are expected in the next 60–90 days and that allowing more time at the front end reduces cost risk.
The report also noted a slight delay in bond issuance slowed final contract execution but did not change the expected completion date. Council did not take a separate vote on the renovation schedule at this meeting but asked staff to return monthly progress updates.
