Trail crews report progress; GCATT, Forest Service and BLM outline upcoming projects and funding shifts

Committee members and agency representatives reported a series of maintenance efforts and project updates affecting local trails.

GCATT reported crews completed work at Navajo Rocks and will focus next on the Jimmy Keen trail; the group said it has a grant for a large maintenance event targeting Pack Creek fire areas and is pursuing Phase 2b funding for Mud Springs after Phase 2 funding was pushed to road improvements. The minutes note new signage will replace worn signs.

The Forest Service said crews have been working in the Abajo Mountains and plan to move to Two‑Mile trails on the La Sal, and that planning is underway for a portion of the "WE" trail down from Warner Lake. BLM reported potash‑road chip sealing later this summer and plans to designate existing airstrips in Grand and San Juan counties.

An at‑large representative said funding is in place for bridge abutments on the Pack Creek trail between Main Street and Kane Creek Boulevard; county roads staff will sweep Spanish Valley Drive twice yearly. The equestrian representative noted a denied grant for a Sand Island parking lot but said volunteers have adopted the Burel Friends trail for maintenance.
