Council adopts ordinance regulating electric motorcycles, adding Chapter 10.42 to city code

The Eden Plus City Council on July 13 adopted Ordinance 2839, a municipal code amendment creating a new chapter on electric motorcycles.

City Clerk Jessica read the ordinance title in full: “An ordinance of the city of Enumclaw, King County, Washington relating to the use and operation of electric motorcycles, adopting a new chapter 10.42 within the Enumclaw city code titled electric motorcycles, providing for severability and establishing an effective date.” Police Commander Tony Ryan delivered the staff report and the committee reported no objections to the ordinance except for a request that training related to the new rules be publicized.

After a motion and second, the council approved the ordinance on a voice vote.

Why it matters: the ordinance creates a specific code chapter governing electric-motorcycle use in the city, which may affect enforcement, public-safety training and rider compliance. The committee asked that any required training be publicized to ensure awareness.

Next steps: The ordinance was adopted on second reading; staff will publish required training and the effective date will be posted with the finalized ordinance text.
