The City of Jonesboro Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on July 14 approved a site plan for Citydale Minor Phase 1 on R-3 property that would remove existing trailer/mobile-home units and construct apartments.
Carlos Wood, the project's engineer, told the commission the plan would remove existing trailer parks on what used to be Willam Drive/Street and build apartments in multiple phases; Phase 1 would include six buildings on the north side of a private drive. City planning staff said the project was before the commission because the number of proposed units triggers MAPC review under the city ordinance.
"We are removing those trailer parks totally out, and we wanna build, some apartments on this property," Wood said, describing the Phase 1 layout. The city planner told commissioners the site plan will be reviewed to ensure full compliance with city codes even though the commission was acting on the site plan presentation: "Our ordinance requires MAPC to review it and, before we go any further," staff said.
A commissioner moved to approve the site plan as presented; the motion was seconded and the commission approved the site plan by voice vote. Staff will continue technical reviews to confirm the site plan meets all ordinance requirements before construction permits are issued.
Staff also used the meeting to remind commissioners about two upcoming meetings tied to the comprehensive plan and a housing study, including a steering-committee Zoom meeting organized by the mayor's office.
