Owosso Historical Commission reviews Home Tour plans, explores Castle water access and seeks volunteers after PFCU grant

At its July 13 meeting at Owosso City Hall, the Owosso Historical Commission reviewed financial reports, discussed plans for the September Home Tour, and debated whether events should be allowed to use the Owosso Castle’s water supply.

Amy Fuller, Assistant City Manager, reviewed the Commission’s revenue and expense report and presented images and repair quotes for the Castle’s radiators. Denice Grace reviewed Castle financials; the transcript does not list dollar amounts or line-item detail. Commissioners discussed Home Tour logistics for September and next steps for Castle maintenance tied to events.

On the question of water access, the commission discussed allowing events in the park to utilize the Castle’s water. Commissioners directed staff to investigate whether an interior on/off valve could be installed inside the building to support event water use; no decision to alter use policy was recorded.

Chairman Lance Little asked for volunteers to staff the Time Traveler booth at the Moonlight Markets. He also announced that the commission had been awarded a $1,000 grant from PFCU to support the Time Traveler project.

Public comment period drew no speakers. Commissioner Rich Collins said he was pleased to join the commission and thanked members; Commissioner Lorraine Weckwert said she enjoyed the Castle’s 250th event and encouraged attendees to read the Declaration of Independence. The commission set its next meeting for August 10, 2026 and adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
