Laconia subcommittee recommends Beth Newton as Library Board alternate

The City of Laconia Appointments Subcommittee on July 9 recommended that Beth Newton be appointed as an alternate member of the Library Board of Trustees for a one-year term ending at the end of March 2027. Councilor Haynes made the motion and Councilor Conant seconded; the subcommittee voted unanimously, 2-0, to send the recommendation to the full City Council.

The recommendation followed a procedural note from Chair Conant that an alternate position on the Library Board had been identified and that Newton had been interviewed previously on June 9, 2026. Earlier in the meeting the subcommittee approved the June 9, 2026 Appointments Subcommittee minutes on a 2-0 vote. Nancy Brown, Administrative Assistant to the City Manager, was recorded as the meeting’s recording secretary.

The subcommittee convened at 3:00 p.m., completed its business and adjourned at 3:01 p.m. The recommendation to appoint Newton will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration at a future meeting.
