Pima council adopts General Plan, approves FY2027 budget and $789,137 fire truck purchase

The Pima Town Council on July 14 adopted the town's General Plan for 2026–2036, approved the FY2027 budget and voted to buy a new fire truck for $789,137 during its meeting at Pima Town Hall.

All measures passed unanimously among the three council members present — Mayor Brian Paull, Vice Mayor Teresa Bailey and Councilmember Georgia Luster — with Councilmembers Lucas Hoopes and Cade Bryce absent. The council also appointed Town Manager Vernon Batty as the town's chief financial officer for FY2027.

Vice Mayor Teresa Bailey moved to adopt the General Plan 2026–2036 and Resolution 2026-03; Councilmember Georgia Luster seconded and the motion carried unanimously, the minutes show. Earlier in the evening Manager Vernon Batty had thanked the Planning & Zoning Board for its work on the plan during the public hearing.

Bailey also moved to adopt the FY2027 budget and Resolution 2026-04; Mayor Brian Paull seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Manager Vernon Batty said the preliminary budget had been passed at the May meeting.

Councilmember Georgia Luster moved to appoint Manager Vernon Batty as Chief Financial Officer for FY2027 under Resolution 2026-06; Vice Mayor Teresa Bailey seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

The council approved purchasing a new fire truck for $789,137 from Community Leasing Partners with a down payment of $280,000 and a seven-year financing term. The motion to approve the purchase was made by Vice Mayor Teresa Bailey and seconded by Councilmember Georgia Luster; the minutes record the motion carried unanimously among those present.

The council also voted to table proposed amendments to the town code's Building Section (Ordinance 2026-05) and referred the item to the Planning & Zoning Board for further review. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
