Agricultural Commission approves minutes and financial report; readies Old Home Day sign contest and Farm Bureau picnic

The Boscawen Agricultural Commission on July 9 approved its prior meeting minutes and the June financial report, assigned members to collect local "farm stories" for the town website, and finalized plans for the town’s Old Home Day sign contest and the Farm Bureau picnic.

Commission member Gary Tillman moved to approve the June 11, 2026 meeting minutes; Josh Crawford seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The Commission then reviewed the financial report dated June 11, 2026; Tillman again moved approval, Crawford seconded and members voted in favor.

The meeting turned to outreach. "Josh has a neighbor that is involved with agricultural activities, and he will follow up," Commission member Josh Crawford said; John Porter added that he "will contact Max on King Street this weekend" to consider a potential site for a website feature. Those assignments were recorded as follow-up tasks.

Members also confirmed plans for Old Home Day decorations. Porter reported, "60 signs have been produced," and said the signs will use a star backdrop and patriotic theme; proceeds from sign sales this year will go to the Agricultural Commission. The Commission suggested potential judges—Julie Fournier, Katie Shaw and Lorrie Carrie—and discussed using a town vehicle to transport judges, noting that a driver from the fire or police departments would be familiar with sign locations.

John Porter announced the Farm Bureau summer picnic will take place Aug. 19 at Sandborn Mills Farm and that candidates for U.S. Senate and Congress would be available to present their qualifications and vision for office.

The meeting concluded after recording a placeholder agenda line that contained no substantive content. Gary Tillman moved to adjourn; Josh Crawford seconded and members voted to adjourn at 6:45 p.m.
