The Newfields Select Board on March 24 acknowledged a letter from the Lamprey River Advisory Committee urging that Epping pursue a Declaration of Regional Impact before issuing permits for a proposed solid waste transfer station.
Board members relayed the committee’s concerns that abutting municipalities received insufficient notice of the project and that the proposed site sits roughly 3,000 feet from Newfields and nearby waterways. The committee asked that Epping officials treat the proposal as having regional impacts and provide additional opportunity for local boards and commissions to review the plans.
Mark Kasper encouraged residents to attend a New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services meeting on April 28 at the American Legion Post 51 in Epping, with a public hearing to follow. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30–7:00 p.m., with the public hearing at 7:15 p.m.
Cat Tarnowski and other board members said they will monitor the permitting process and urged residents to submit comments to DES or attend the hearing in Epping.
The Select Board’s acknowledgment of the Lamprey River Advisory Committee letter does not change the permitting process in Epping, but it signals local concern and interest in coordinated review. Residents seeking more information were directed to the DES process and the April 28 meeting.
