Council awards $5.01 million construction contract for Coyote Ridge Park renovations

The City Council approved a construction contract on July 14 to renovate Coyote Ridge Park Phase 1, awarding the work to Colorado DesignScapes Inc. for a contract not to exceed $5,010,728. Parks, Recreation and Open Space staff described Phase 1 as addressing aging playground equipment, adding shade and restroom vaults, renovating a full-size ball field with warning track and dugouts, improving trail grades for accessibility and replacing irrigation.

Parks staff said bid documents were completed in May, the project was publicly advertised and nine bids were received (seven determined responsive). After a rubric-based evaluation and reference checks, Colorado DesignScapes was judged the lowest responsible, responsive bidder offering the best value. Staff noted the project was within the 2026 capital improvement program appropriation and recommended award.

The contract includes starter work beginning August 1, a 150-day construction schedule (with weather and unforeseen conditions accounted for in the schedule), a one-year materials warranty and provisions for liquidated damages if the contractor misses milestones. Council members asked about coordination with an ongoing lift-station project and parking/traffic impacts; staff said they plan to stage work to preserve field access and maintain key trail connections where possible and will communicate closures to residents.
