On July 8, 2026, the Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education met in the Mason Senior High School IVN Room and approved the district's 2026-27 tax rate with no change from the prior year, accepted a staff resignation, approved multiple personnel contracts and a $18,730 electrical contract for the middle school CTE shop.
President Otting opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. After roll call (England, Fortner, Fowler and Otting present; Grodi, Nehrig and Waller absent) the board approved the agenda and carried the consent agenda, which included multiple closed-session minutes and the June 2026 check register.
In the superintendent's report, Superintendent Tuller highlighted the district's food-distribution efforts and thanked volunteers: "The food distribution continues to support more kiddos each week. Today, alone, we served 100 more kiddos than last week." Tuller also addressed a personnel question by noting the district follows applicable provisions of the Michigan Revised School Code, including Section 1236, and described the district's longstanding use of team-teaching and co-teaching arrangements (citing examples of Ms. Radant and Ms. Malik).
On personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of Lori Manley, a CES teacher, and approved hiring Rafal Kaczowka for a high-school mathematics position at Step 4 BA, pending receipt of required certification and favorable reference, criminal history and background checks. The board also approved an HR specialist contract and an accounting assistant contract; the motions for those contracts were moved by England and supported by Fowler and carried 4-0.
On facilities, the board approved contracting with Laibe Electric for electrical upgrades in the middle school CTE shop at a bid of $18,730. The motion was moved by England, supported by Fortner and carried 4-0.
Board members voted unanimously on the recorded motions; each carried by a 4-0 tally of the members present. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the same location. The meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
