The Towne District Select Board voted July 15 to appoint Andy Hart as the town's new local health officer and to name John Bean interim codes enforcement officer while the town continues its search for a permanent code-enforcement official.
Committee member (S1) moved to appoint Andy Hart; the board approved the motion by voice vote. Later in the meeting, Committee member (S1) moved to appoint John Bean as interim codes enforcement officer so ongoing permit work can continue while the town completes hiring. Chair (S2) said John Bean will cover additional hours as he is able and that the arrangement should keep contractors and permit applicants moving during the search for a full-time code enforcement officer.
The board also reviewed and approved payroll warrant number 5 for $15,409.89 and an accounts payable warrant for $621,291.48. The Select Board approved last week's meeting minutes (July 8, 2026) as read.
In department reports, staff said Ellis Reed (name referenced by speakers) is available in the codes office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to assist with plumbing and septic permits and related questions.
The appointments take effect immediately and the board said it will continue the recruitment process for a permanent codes enforcement officer and confirm any paperwork needed to formalize interim duties.
