Parksley sets public hearing on proposed zoning and parking rules after resident concerns

The Parksley Town Council set a public hearing for 6 p.m. before its next regular meeting to consider proposed zoning ordinance changes, after residents raised concerns about front-yard parking and property upkeep.

Councilman Dan Matthews and others described draft language that would clarify what constitutes a driveway, prohibit certain front-yard parking patterns and address boarded windows and vehicles without tags. Resident Donna Phillips asked how the ordinance would affect her ability to park near her house given lot constraints; council members said proposed language would define driveways and that enforcement and exemptions would be discussed publicly.

Mayor Wayne Marshall asked Clerk Letitia Greer to make copies of the proposed ordinances available at the town office so residents can review them before the hearing. Council members and residents agreed advanced access would improve transparency and public participation.

No vote was taken on the ordinances at the Feb. 10 meeting; the hearing will provide the formal opportunity for public comment before any ordinance adoption.
