Board approves pump rebuilds for wells 6 and 7 and $79,000 replacement of odor-control media

Utilities Supervisor Kennison told the Board the boosters for wells 6 and 7 were installed in the mid-1970s and have not had a major overhaul; impeller cavitation and leaking seals indicate the need for rebuilds to avoid catastrophic failure. "We're starting to get cavitation out of the impellers and some of the seals are starting to leak," Kennison said, describing why the work is needed.

Kennison said he obtained three quotes and identified Dorner (referred to in the transcript as Dorner company) as the lowest bidder. During the presentation he stated the Dorner quote as $16,822 per pump. When a committee member moved to accept the Dorner quotation, the amount stated in the motion was recorded in the meeting as $16,008.22 per pump; the committee approved the motion by voice vote. Kennison also presented a separate item to replace the wood media in the wastewater plant's odor-control system. Kennison recommended a supplier in Batavia, Illinois, who would deliver the material in bags for easier installation. A motion to accept that quotation for $79,000 (recorded in the transcript as from a firm referred to as "Guest Biotech") carried on a voice vote. Kennison said staff will remove the old media and perform the installation.

The motions passed on voice votes and the committee directed staff to proceed with contracting and scheduling the work.
