The Village of Hammond board voted July 13 to amend Chapter 78 Section 78-203 to prohibit data centers or computer infrastructure as a conditional use in the M-1 industrial zoning district and approved rezoning parcel 136-1048-20-000 (1111 Eulaine Circle) from R-1 to R-2.
President Tony Bibeau opened a brief public hearing on the M-1 amendment at 6:02 p.m.; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed. Trustee Laurie Gruber moved to approve the ordinance amendment; Trustee Dan Curran seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Trustees Birkeland, Pabst, Curran, President Bibeau, Gruber and Trudell as voting aye and the motion carried.
President Bibeau then opened a public hearing at 6:03 p.m. on rezoning 1111 Eulaine Circle. The parcel owner told the board he plans to build two duplexes and reconfigure the property into four separate parcels. Trustee Gruber moved to approve the rezoning; Trustee Trudell seconded. The board approved the rezoning on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Both items were routine and received no substantive public opposition during the hearings. No implementation timeline or appeals were announced during the meeting.
