Council approves two thoroughfare-plan amendments tied to Dallas County projects

Lancaster — The City Council approved two amendments to the master thoroughfare plan related to county-led capital projects, aligning local right-of-way widths and classifications with Dallas County engineering and federal funding plans.

City manager staff said the Sunrise/Sun Bridal Road amendment updates the thoroughfare plan to increase the right-of-way width along a segment between Beltline Road and Loop 9 from 100 feet to 105 feet to conform with the scope of the county's inland-port multimodal connectivity project; Dallas County has been awarded $25 million in federal RAISE grant funds that include Sunrise Road.

A separate amendment reclassifies Pleasant Run Road between North Dallas Avenue and Lancaster Hutchins Road from a 120-foot major interior type A to a 100-foot major interior type B to align with the county 'hockey stick' project's 30%-design engineering. Staff said Dallas County and TxDOT are funding major portions of the project and that the city committed $1.5 million toward construction.

Both amendments were noticed and considered through the required public-hearing process; no public speakers opposed those items at the hearings and Planning & Zoning recommended approval. Council approved both amendments.
