Paul Stevens told the Sanbornton Conservation Commission on July 9 that he plans to reintroduce a Trails Subcommittee to oversee hiking and nature trails on town land and conservation easements, and that he will serve as liaison and Trails Coordinator.
Stevens recognized volunteers Peggy Graham and Marsha Haigh for their work maintaining trail blazes and said he will gather necessary documents and recruit volunteers to support trail maintenance. The commission reviewed minute language from a 2023 motion by Dick Ayers that laid out the proposed subcommittee’s structure, including permanent and alternate members, liaison responsibilities and spending oversight by the commission. Members debated whether to start with a larger group that follows formal meeting procedures or a smaller working group to reduce the need for formal minutes and meeting scheduling; the commission agreed a small starter group would be easiest to begin operations.
Stevens will assemble documents and volunteer contact information, report progress to the commission, and oversee trail maintenance activity going forward.
