Pink Hill Board approves routine finances, equipment purchase and parade livestream support

The Pink Hill Board of Commissioners handled several routine but operationally important items at its Oct. 14 meeting, including approvals of the agenda and minutes, departmental updates, a small equipment purchase and a community media request.

Commissioner Michael Whitfield moved to approve the October agenda; Commissioner Brandon Marshburn seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Whitfield later moved to approve the August minutes; Commissioner Penny Murphy seconded and the motion carried 3–0.

Town Clerk Lauren Smith told the Board that financial reports were current except for the Water Fund and noted that interest income rose significantly after the Town transferred savings into the N.C. Capital Management Trust in early September. Mayor Mike Horne provided Water Department updates, including a change to the parade's usual staging location because of a road closure on Carol Drive, and announced the Town had purchased a used excavator to help Public Works address drainage and related issues.

During public comment, Richard Goldsby thanked the Town for support of the 2nd annual Hispanic Heritage Festival and announced the Community Connection meeting on Oct. 20 and the Veteran's Day service on Nov. 9. B.J. Murphy and Aletha Thrower of Neuse News asked the Board's permission to livestream the 2025 Pink Hill Christmas Parade and described technical needs—a dedicated ethernet line, electrical hookups and a detailed line-up; the Board expressed full support for the request. Lori Bradford of the Pink Hill Public Library invited residents to the library's Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 31 from 6–8 p.m.

The Board recessed routine business to address planning and grant items later in the meeting.
