ARC debriefs centennial, discusses Marsh Oaks grand-opening themes, music fest and film series

City staff and committee members used the July 4 meeting to debrief the centennial celebration and to plan future events around the forthcoming Marsh Oaks Community Center.

A city staff member said the centennial "went very well" and praised volunteer support and entertainment, while noting the heat was a problem and that the city should consider avoiding large summer events in future. Committee members suggested staging a grand-opening event when the center is ready and discussed themed programming to showcase community features—multicultural performances, lifeguard demonstrations, skateboarding and water-sport exhibits, and local restaurants from Atlantic Beach as potential sponsors.

Staff announced a music festival planned for Dec. 21 (evening, 5–10 p.m.) with three bands, vendors and the capacity for beer and wine under city rules. Committee members also discussed the film series and the possibility of licensing WALL·E for a November screening as an environmental, family-friendly selection.

Separately, the committee discussed recruitment needs: ARC still has open seats and members proposed creating a one-page description of duties and time commitment to encourage new, especially younger, applicants. Staff volunteered to draft and circulate that document for committee feedback.

Next steps: staff will share a grand-opening timeline as the Marsh Oaks Community Center nears completion, proceed with event licensing and vendor planning for the Dec. 21 music fest, and draft outreach materials for committee recruitment.
