Sheriff’s Office seeks reclassification for jail administrative role; dispatch consolidation update given

Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office described steps to realign office and support positions after retirements and earlier transfers of two jobs to the controller’s office, and sought commission direction on reclassifying one jail administrative support position to an accounting technician I or II depending on candidate qualifications.

The sheriff’s representative said the change reflects recommendations from an earlier interdepartmental review to align job duties with actual work. If the reclassification becomes an Accounting Tech II, county policy requires full commission approval; staff said the controller’s office can absorb any personnel cost this year.

Separately, staff provided an update on dispatch consolidation with the Lincoln Dispatch Center. They said dispatch supervisors and leads will transfer and operate jointly, with the move expected in October. Commissioners were invited to a 4–7 p.m. celebration marking the dispatch center transition.

No formal action was taken on the reclassification during the work session; staff indicated they will present the matter to the full commission as required by policy if the higher grade is necessary.

Next steps: if the position meets qualifications for a tech II, staff will place the reclassification request on the full commission agenda; dispatch consolidation will proceed with operational transition and staff follow‑up.
