The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved Special Appropriation '26-90 at its July 14 meeting, adding $1,100,000 to Montgomery College’s FY26 operating budget for current fund operating expenses. The source of funds was identified as tuition and fees.
Amanda C. Broadnax, who said she previously attended Montgomery College, testified in support and described facility impacts that prompted the funding request. "I used to go to Montgomery College many, many years ago... I was shocked to see that their library is not open," Broadnax said, urging community backing for the college.
Council president Natalie Fanny Gonzalez called the public testimony and moved the item to the action portion. The motion to approve was made and seconded by council members present; the chair announced the measure passed unanimously.
The appropriation will be recorded in the county’s fiscal records and was scheduled for immediate action following the public hearing.
