County hears wildfire update as state EOC activates to Level 2

Daggett County commissioners were briefed July 14 on active fires affecting the county. Michelle Miller told the panel, "We are now 50% contained," and said crews were tracking the nearby Grizzly Bridal Fire while evacuation zones remained in place.

The briefing included an update that the state Emergency Operations Center had been activated to Level 2 because of multiple fires, Miller said. She described coordination among local crews and mutual‑aid partners and noted that recent weather improved fire behavior but that evacuation set zones were still active.

An agency official who relayed operational details said the principal fire involved "about 23 to 24 acre acres," that multiple crew teams were assigned and two helicopters were in use. The official added that retardant applied earlier "wasn't as tight as they had liked" and that accumulated deadfall served as a complicating fuel source.

The official credited private and neighboring assets for quick assistance: a 9,000‑gallon water truck owned by Williams was used to help extinguish a nearby Antelope fire, which the official said burned "under 2" acres. The National Weather Service outlook from Grand Junction was described as "pretty favorable" for the next five days, with the official and commissioners noting that wind and humidity will still be factors.

No new containment timeline or lift of evacuation notices was announced during the meeting. Commissioners and staff said they would continue to monitor conditions and rely on coordinated incident briefings.
