Daggett County adopts Resolution 26-13 declaring drought emergency

Daggett County commissioners voted July 13 to adopt Resolution 26-13, declaring a drought emergency pursuant to Utah Code 17-8-7. The motion, made by Committee member (S3) and seconded by Committee member (S2), passed by voice vote.

Committee member (S3) said the declaration should be transmitted to state offices so local producers and agencies can use the options the resolution enables, and proposed edits including language that explicitly covers hauling water and importing feed. "It may be importing feed," the chair noted during discussion, and commissioners agreed an additional paragraph referencing hauling water would clarify implementation for agricultural users.

Commissioners discussed ensuring the resolution is routed to the appropriate state contacts and agreed to the edits proposed during the motion. The resolution’s adoption will allow county officials to access and activate drought-related mitigation options for affected residents and agricultural operations.

The motion was recorded as approval with the edits described; commissioners voiced approval by a roll-call-style voice vote in the meeting record.

The resolution takes effect immediately; staff were asked to confirm transmission of the final document to state agencies so eligible parties may access any available relief programs.
