The Chula Board of Aldermen voted unanimously July 14 to authorize Good Time Slushies to serve alcohol at the Chula Street Fair on Sept. 20, 2025 and to provide the company with a city letter to support its liquor-license application.
The vote, made by motion of Alderman Geremy Bru and seconded by Alderman Kyle Gramenz, carried 4-0. Mayor Cody Ireland presided and a quorum of four aldermen cast the votes.
The approval came after a public request from Kati Westcott, representing the community center's event planning, who asked the board to provide a written statement needed for the vendor’s liquor-license process. The council also discussed community-center needs: a recent garage sale raised $1,015.12 for the center, work on bathrooms continues with a decision not to run hot water, and Mayor Ireland pledged to donate an additional sink top for installation.
Beyond the street-fair authorization, the board approved several routine financial and administrative items. The council voted to pay outstanding bills (including payments to Chula Farmers Co-op and ConAgg), approved a sewer adjustment credit of $33.72 for customer #316 for a pool fill, and voted 4-0 to require utility payments to be received by 5 p.m. on the 15th of the month to avoid finance charges; Dawn Boyles will accept payments and verify senior discount eligibility on Wednesday evenings from 4–7 p.m.
Council members also tabled approval of meeting minutes until the next session and scheduled a special meeting for July 23 at 6 p.m. and the regular monthly meeting for Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The board’s actions were procedural and unanimous; no contentious debate or roll-call vote detail beyond the 4-0 tallies was recorded.
