Dennis Finance Committee appoints Josh Mason to fill vacancy

The Dennis Finance Committee unanimously appointed Josh Mason to fill a vacancy on the panel during its July 13 meeting.

Chair Cheryl McMahon opened the meeting by noting the committee may fill vacancies until the next annual town meeting. Mason introduced himself, saying, "For those who do not know me, my name is Josh Mason. I bring more than 20 years of executive leadership" including nonprofit and construction project experience and prior service with the Dennis Affordable Housing Trust and the Barnstable County Housing Consortium.

Committee members asked about potential conflicts of interest and licensing; Mason said his current work is primarily in Hyannis and that he holds a residential contractor license and plans to take the commercial exam in the future. After questions, a committee member moved to appoint Mason and another member seconded. McMahon called the vote and announced it was unanimous.

McMahon clarified the appointment will expire at the adjournment of the May 2027 annual town meeting. Members noted Mason must be sworn in by the clerk's office before participating formally; Mason said he would follow up with the clerk.

Mason said he looks forward to serving. "Thank you all very much. I really appreciate it, and I look forward to working with all of you," he said.

The committee also discussed options for filling the remaining second vacancy, agreeing to solicit additional candidates and consider interviews in August or mid‑August outreach before making a second appointment.
