Council approves $3,525.05 to relocate tornado-siren system to new fire station

The Clinton City Council on a unanimous roll call approved a $3,525.05 appropriation from the alcohol-tax line item to relocate the city's tornado-siren system to the new fire station.

Mayor and council members discussed a quote to move the siren and antenna; Tim Clark, zoning staff, told the council the relocation "was $3,525.05 to get that system moved." Council member (speaker 6) moved to take the full amount from the alcohol-tax fund and the motion was seconded and approved by roll call.

The council discussed where to transfer the funds from and confirmed the appropriation would be recorded to a tornado-siren line item. There was no substantive amendment to the motion; the vote was taken by roll call and recorded as unanimous.

The appropriation will allow the vendor to move the siren system, install a new antenna at the fire station and tie the system into the station's generator to preserve siren operation in power outages. Council members said the change is intended to address intermittent coverage problems in the area near Grace Church and other locations that sometimes miss alerts when foliage or weather interfere with the existing antenna position.

The council did not identify further contingencies or a timeline for the vendor to complete the work beyond the vendor quote; council staff will record the appropriation and follow procurement rules for the payment.
