Council welcomes Sean Hastings as Clinton's new fire chief

The mayor announced that the city has appointed Sean Hastings as its new fire chief and welcomed him before turning the floor over for brief remarks.

"I'd like to thank everyone, the mayor and the council, for allowing me to be able to still serve and serve the community," Hastings said, and he summarized recent inspections and routine calls, including fireworks-tent permits and a school sprinkler inspection.

Mayor and council members welcomed Hastings and noted the department's recent activity was light; Hastings said most calls in June were minor and that inspections at local schools and businesses had gone well. Council members and the mayor encouraged the new chief and noted existing staff will support him as he takes on duties.

The council did not take a separate vote at this meeting to appoint Hastings; the mayor said the formal appointment occurred during a prior special meeting and introduced Hastings to the council for the public record and remarks.
