Clinton airport marks grand opening; students to test out of Pulaski Tech first semester

The Clinton airport commission celebrated the grand opening of a new building and reported that an agreement will allow students to test out of the first semester at Pulaski Tech, potentially shortening time to credentialing for aviation students.

Trevor Dawson, representing the airport commission, said the front of the building is presentable and that officials "just got word today that those students will be able to test out of the 1st semester of college at Pulaski Tech." He said the commission worked to make the facility usable for students and that construction work and a second grant for door and concrete work should wrap up in the coming weeks.

Dawson said hangar construction is expected to begin when equipment is dropped off, and if weather allows the buildings should be up by early fall. The airport commission said it will submit final paperwork to close out a $100,000 grant for door and concrete work once remaining cleanup tasks in surrounding areas are finished.

Council members and the mayor praised the effort and noted participation from FAA and local schools at the opening. The report emphasized the airport's role in local workforce training and upcoming construction milestones.
