The Little Rock Planning Commission approved a conditional‑use permit July 9 for Sun Auto Tire and Service to build a 6,566‑square‑foot auto parts sales and limited installation shop at 2610 Cantrell Road.
Planning staff told the commission the site is zoned C‑3, the proposed 31‑space parking plan complies with ordinance requirements, and staff recommended approval subject to standard conditions in the staff report. "Staff believes the proposal will have no adverse impact on the general area," the staff presentation said.
Steven Roberts, representing family‑owned businesses nearby, urged the commission to consider potential negative effects of a national chain on local businesses. "This is an example of a national corporate chain coming in to an area and probably have an effect on privately owned businesses that have been in Little Rock for years," he said.
Jake White, representing the applicant, said similar commercial uses exist nearby and noted the property’s C‑3 zoning and compatibility with surrounding uses. After short commissioner discussion, the commission approved the conditional‑use permit on a roll‑call vote with Baxter absent.
The permit allows construction to proceed subject to the conditions in the staff report; the applicant will follow standard site‑plan and permitting processes with the Planning Department.
