Council previews projects, proclaims Arbor Day, hears public comment about Timbercrest access and SAA fee

Council received reports and community items during the June 23 meeting, including design direction for a Memorial Plaza, project communication updates, a public safety briefing, and a public comment asking for an SAA fee exemption.

Town Manager Bret Howser presented Memorial Plaza layout options and council direction on flagpole heights and orientation, monument style, timber steps, lighting and an accessible path from Steam Engine Drive. Howser also updated the council that the Ponderosa sewer project will be re‑bid in the fall for construction next summer and that a project update subscription system and the 311 'yellow button' workflow are active on the town website.

Sgt. Dan Guymon reported that the Beaver Fire had "grown to over 11,000 acres in 24 hours" and described extra Fourth of July patrols and prevention messaging focused on e‑bike safety.

During public comment, Dave Mason thanked staff for resolving a Blue Jay Way access issue and asked that Timbercrest be exempted from the $1,000 SAA application fee given the years residents were landlocked; he also supported a pre‑development camping permit for property owners who need to camp on undeveloped lots to clear them for safety and maintenance while opposing general camping in town.

Town Clerk Nancy Leigh presented a proclamation designating July 24, 2026, as Brian Head Arbor Day, which the council adopted; the event will include planting 25 trees at Bristlecone Park and a presentation by arborist Ryan Johnson.
