Lawmaker seeks short-term parking near bakery on Prince and Ogden

A lawmaker told the panel that the owner of a bakery asked the city to address long-term parking along the side of her business and requested city action to free up short-term customer spaces. Lawmaker (first referenced here as Lawmaker) said staff inspected the block and found multiple multi-family units whose residents parked there for hours, limiting access for bakery patrons.

Staff member said the recommendation is to prohibit parking for 20 feet from the intersection — the turning radius — and then mark three 10-minute spaces adjacent to the bakery so customers can load and leave. “From the very tip of the intersection of Prince and Ogden … from the 20 feet mark, then you have 3 spots on the same side of the road for 10 minute parking,” the staff member said, describing both the no-parking buffer and the short-term spaces.

The plan calls for signage and pavement markings; staff noted they can add painted lines if needed and that enforcement would ticket vehicles staying beyond the 10-minute limit. The lawmaker said the bakery owner “is absolutely delighted if we can get it through for her,” and committee members raised no objection during the floor discussion.

The committee did not record a formal motion on the ordinance text during the discussion; members said they would circulate the proposal among the committee for final wording and review before any formal vote. The matter remains scheduled for committee consideration, with staff to provide marked measurements and any needed signage specifications ahead of the vote.
