Commission hears amendment to expand county psychiatric residency slots; $125,000 fiscal note cited

County staff described an amendment to the county's continuing agreement with the Wichita Center for Graduate Medical Education that would allow the county to add one more year-3 resident in psychiatric care, increasing the number of residents the county hosts from six to seven.

"This will allow us to take 7," Anne said when asked to explain the change. Staff said the additional slots include child psychiatry residents and that the current agreement previously covered six residents.

Tom told commissioners the amendment carries a fiscal note of about $125,000 a year. Anne said the main impetus was the availability of a seventh resident and noted that the expanded capacity is "exciting" because it includes child psychiatry placements.

Tom also flagged an upcoming staff briefing: Michelle will attend the staff meeting to explain differences between two licensures referenced in the agenda (CCBHC and CMHC) related to the county's behavioral health arrangements with KDADS.

The commission reviewed the item during agenda review and had no immediate questions recorded; the transcript does not show a formal vote on the amendment at this session.
