The College of William and Mary Board of Visitors approved a series of resolutions and appointments during its April 20–22 meeting, adopting multiple committee recommendations as blocks and confirming nominations for Board offices that take effect July 1, 2022.
Committee chairs summarized agendas and moved items for approval. The RBC Committee’s recommendations (Resolutions 1–5 and HC‑1) were approved as a block; the Committee on Academic Affairs’ items (Resolutions 6–10) and a slate of faculty appointments and promotions (Resolutions 11–20) were approved as a block; the Administration, Buildings and Grounds Committee moved Resolutions 21–25 (including endorsement of the Housing & Dining Comprehensive Facilities Plan), which were approved together; and the Committee on Financial Affairs moved Resolution 26, amending the endowment Investment and Spending Policy. All committee motions were approved by voice vote unless otherwise recorded.
The Board also approved several governance and external‑board appointments: Resolution HC‑2 named the chair of the Committee on Financial Affairs as the Board’s representative to the 1693 Partners Fund; Resolution HC‑3 appointed a director to the William & Mary Real Estate Foundation Board; and the Board adopted recognition resolutions for Dean Lawrence B. Pulley (HC‑4), Henry R. Broaddus (HC‑5), and Rector John E. Littel (HC‑6).
The Nominations Committee presented a slate for Board officers for the July 1, 2022–June 30, 2024 term (Rector: Hon. Charles E. Poston; Vice Rector: Ms. Barbara L. Johnson; Secretary: Ms. Ardine Williams). Hearing no nominations from the floor, the Board closed nominations and adopted the slate by roll call vote.
Votes at a glance: Resolutions 1–5 and HC‑1 (RBC appointments, academic promotions, RBC master plan revisions): approved as a block (voice vote); Resolutions 6–10 (academic affairs items): approved as a block (voice vote); Resolutions 11–20 (faculty appointments and professorships): approved as a block (voice vote); Resolutions 21–25 (Housing & Dining endorsement, P3 authority adoption, delegation for capital projects under $3M, property acquisition and demolition, executive employment policy revision): approved as a block (voice vote); Resolution 26 (amendment to Investment and Spending Policy for Endowment): approved (voice vote); HC‑2, HC‑3 (appointments to Partners Fund and Real Estate Foundation): approved (voice vote); HC‑4, HC‑5, HC‑6 (recognitions and commendations): approved (voice vote).
Where votes were recorded by roll call (for example certification of closed‑session compliance and officer elections), the minutes note the counts; numerous block approvals were passed by unanimous voice vote or by the committee’s motion. The Board’s approvals typically directed staff to return with detailed proposals or implementation steps when required (for example Phase I project approvals and any P3 terms for housing).
