Cascade Annex workshop raises security concerns; EDC funding deferred to Dec. 1

Commissioners held a workshop during the Nov. 24 meeting to discuss the Cascade Annex relocation and associated security, parking and service issues. Sheriff Kevin Copperi told the board the Sheriff's Office currently does not have the resources to provide security at the annex. Prosecuting Attorney Brian Oakey raised related legal and operational concerns while IT Director Jeremy Wilcox proposed installing additional cameras tied into courthouse security and noted that panic buttons already exist on staff computers.

Commissioners directed Wilcox to obtain cost estimates for camera installation, requested reflectors at the annex entrance and asked for extra patrols as available. Facility Director Terri Kenneda and other department heads participated in the discussion about parking, janitorial services and the Cascade Annex boiler system.

Separately, the board discussed funding for the West Central Mountains Economic Development Council to complete a resource management plan and support Boise State University community meetings. Commissioner Katlin Caldwell asked for more time to deliberate; the board rescheduled the funding decision for Dec. 1, 2025. No formal vote on annex security measures or EDC funding was recorded at the workshop beyond directions to staff.
