Yutan holds sales tax open house on annexation; no action taken

YUTAN, Neb. — The Yutan City Council convened a special open house July 8, 2026, at the Yutan Fire Hall to present a short video explaining a proposed annexation and accompanying sales-tax proposal and to take public comment; the council did not take formal action on either matter.

Mayor Matt Thompson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and noted the location of the Open Meetings Act and the city’s code of conduct. Councilmembers Lawton, Schimenti and Smith were present; Councilmember Mach was absent.

Per the meeting agenda, the session was informational: a short video laid out the breakdown of the annexation and the proposed sales tax, and council members answered questions from residents in attendance. The minutes record that public comment was invited and that no action would be taken at the meeting.

The only formal action recorded in the minutes was routine adjournment. Councilmember Smith moved to adjourn at 7:59 p.m.; Councilmember Lawton seconded. A roll-call vote recorded votes in favor from Lawton, Schimenti and Smith; none opposed. The motion carried and the meeting adjourned.

The minutes list the next scheduled meetings as a budget hearing on July 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. and a regular city council meeting on July 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The sales-tax and annexation proposals remain under consideration and were not decided at the July 8 open house.
