U.S. officials, she reported, told CBS News that Iranian negotiators privately blamed "radicals in the system" for initiating the recent attacks, which those negotiators said were attempting to derail the talks.

The report also attributed a statement to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, saying Tehran would "avenge the death" referenced in that statement; the transcript does not identify the person Khamenei was referring to.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world's oil supply flows, was cited by the report as a contributor to higher global energy prices. Citing AAA, Rinaldi said the U.S. average price of a gallon of gasoline rose to $3.88 on Friday amid the heightened tensions.
