Parke County to consider $15,000 request from Terre Haute for Susie's Place child advocacy services

A county commissioner (S4) told Parke County commissioners that Terre Haute Mayor Sackman had requested neighboring counties consider contributions to Susie's Place, a Terre Haute child advocacy center serving abused youth up to 18, after the center's funding was cut.

"Their funding has been cut substantially," S4 said, and added that Terre Haute had committed $75,000 and was asking surrounding counties for $15,000 each to bridge the gap. S4 said Parke County typically has about 10 children who use the center and that transports to more distant alternatives (Avon) would be more time-consuming.

Commissioners discussed whether $15,000 is a reasonable share and emphasized they need confirmation that funds are available in the county budget before committing.
