Resident tells Canton Select Board she witnessed corruption, calls for accountability in police department

During the Select Board's public comment period on May 19, resident Brenda Sweeney accused Canton Police Department leadership of serious misconduct and called for accountability.

Sweeney said she and others "saw with our own eyes" actions she described as corruption involving Chief Daniels and CPD during an investigation. "Perjury corrupts the administration of justice," she said, and alleged that dash-cam footage shows multiple people entering and leaving a house during the time Chief Daniels testified that no one else was present. She also alleged that officers "embedded themselves in the crime scene" when the CERT team was conducting a search and described that conduct as "police misconduct at the very least." She urged accountability and said protesters would return if the board did not address the concerns.

The Select Board did not respond to the allegations during the public comment period. Earlier in the same comment block, another resident, Scott Linder, told the board he had dropped off a petition regarding chemical treatment of a reservoir and habitat loss.
