District safety plan posted for 30 days; adoption set for Aug. 25, 2026

The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District posted a draft of its districtwide safety plan for a minimum 30‑day public comment period, and administration plans to return the plan to the board for formal adoption at a meeting scheduled for Aug. 25, 2026, officials said.

Kirk Anderson presented the update and told the board that the health and safety committee had thoroughly reviewed the plan and recommended it to the board. Anderson said changes this year are minor and largely reflect formatting and state-required clarifications: "Minor updates that the state is requiring with terms, items, or actions that the district already has implemented," he said.

Superintendent Poole said the administration will post a table mapping state requirements to plan elements and important completion dates so the public can track compliance. The district will accept public comment on the posted draft for at least 30 days before seeking board adoption.

The administration said the board will take up a formal adoption vote at the August meeting; there was no substantive debate during the presentation and no changes were proposed on the floor.
