Deb Pullin-Van Auken, president of the National Cattle Congress (NCC) board of directors, appeared before the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors on July 7 to request $25,000 in county funding for marketing the NCC annual fair scheduled Sept. 24–27.
Pullin-Van Auken described how the organization would use the funds for marketing and said additional work will be done in-house with support from a marketing intern. Finance Director Michelle Weidner told the board that, because the county cannot accept donations for this purpose, any payment would require a contract for services. Supervisor Justin Brandt asked whether the board could defer the decision for two weeks so staff could prepare contract language and additional information; the board did not take any final action at the meeting.
The request will return to the board for consideration after staff prepares a contract for services and provides any additional details requested by supervisors.
