The National City Traffic Safety Committee approved staff’s recommendation to install a designated disabled-parking (blue-curb) space in front of 704 at the request of Maria Matal.
Staff told the committee that Maria Matal’s household includes multiple members with mobility impairments and that engineering measurements showed the driveway approach and garage access would be blocked under some parking patterns. Staff said the house has a garage but frequent neighborhood nighttime parking and that the applicant meets the program’s eligibility criteria, so a single blue-curb space was recommended to ensure access for loading and unloading.
Commissioners and staff discussed local parking conditions, noting that daytime parking appeared light but that nighttime demand was heavy near the property and that the location is near a school. Members asked whether other nearby blue-curb spaces existed and reviewed a site photo; staff confirmed the recommended curb marking would prevent other vehicles from blocking garage access.
A motion to accept staff’s recommendation carried by unanimous voice vote as announced by the chair. Staff said they would implement the curb marking and would check outstanding applications in the queue for completeness.
