The Town Clerk certified a petition for noncontiguous ("satellite") annexation of 1111 Old Dallas Highway as sufficient on July 9, and the Board of Aldermen scheduled a public hearing on the request for the August 13 regular meeting.
The certificate of sufficiency (Exhibit E) states the petition was submitted by Daniel Lee Brown and later updated by current owners Stacey Malker Thomas and Daniel James Thomas. Staff reported that water and electric service are currently available to the parcel; Public Works estimated extending sewer service would cost about $198,240, calculated as 2,478 linear feet at $80 per foot. The packet also noted the property is presently served by a rural fire department and that any assumption of debt under GS 160A-58.2a should be considered.
Alderman Huggins moved to set a public hearing for August 13; Alderman Cearley seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The public hearing will allow residents and property owners to present comments before the board takes any formal annexation action.
