During the public‑comment portion of the July 9 meeting, Richland resident Sumit Prewett asked the Parks and Recreation Commission to consider developing a dedicated cricket facility at Linwood Park. Prewett said he has been working with local organizers and that the Tri‑Cities region has a growing interest in cricket.
"I stand up here today to initiate a discussion and an opportunity to formally put a request that we have growing interest, and city should consider building a proper cricket park," Prewett said, adding that players currently use a strip of the inner field at Linwood Park and travel to Seattle every summer to play in a formal league.
Prewett offered to bring a group of players and make presentations on facility requirements, community interest and potential benefits to the city. Commissioners accepted the comment and thanked him for bringing the request forward; no formal action or timeline for staff follow‑up was established at the meeting.
The comment will be part of the meeting record and available to staff and commissioners as they continue planning under the PROS plan.
