Council sets Aug. 18 public hearing on Southern Area zoning changes

The Birmingham City Council on July 7 voted to set a public hearing for Aug. 18, 2026, on a proposed ordinance that would revise zoning district boundaries for properties in the Southern Area Framework Plan, covering neighborhoods including Crestline, Crestwood and Red Mountain.

The clerk described the item as Case ZAC2000And25-26 and the council moved to set the hearing date. Council president Alexander confirmed the date and the council approved the motion. The hearing will provide the formal opportunity for community comment and for the council to consider adopting the underlying ordinance.
