Magistrate orders cleanup, screening or removal of derelict vehicles at Hallville Road property

Bay County code enforcement presented evidence July 10 that the property at 14240 Hallville Road is out of compliance with Bay County Code section 17‑2 for junk, unscreened personal property, derelict vehicles and overgrowth. Investigator Rick McKinnon testified inspections dating to June 2025 documented persistent violations despite intermittent cleanup and that the owners are deceased with family members managing cleanup efforts.

McKinnon said photos and inspection notes show watercraft, appliances and derelict vehicles on the parcel and that re‑inspections in 2026 found persistent overgrowth and trash. He recommended a magistrate order setting 10 days to remove and lawfully dispose of trash and to store or screen unscreened personal property; derelict vehicles or watercraft must be removed, made operable and registered, stored in an enclosed structure, or removed from the property.

The magistrate accepted the recommendation, ordered the cleanup and set an initial fine of $200 with a $25 daily fine after 10 days; liens and county abatement were noted as enforcement options if the property is not brought into compliance. A compliance hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
