Permanent concession stand closed amid legal dispute; town seeks mobile concession to bridge gap

Town staff told the Beach Committee on July 9 that the permanent beach concession stand is not open while the town addresses an ongoing legal matter and that the town has issued a bid for a mobile concession to fill the gap.

"The permanent concession stand is not open ... We're in the middle of a legal situation, and right now, we went out for ... a mobile concession to bridge the gap until we get that rectified," the Staff member said, describing the procurement step the town has taken while the legal issue proceeds.

Staff also presented a revenue snapshot indicating the town is approximately $19,000 ahead of last season at this point, noting that last year was the town's biggest summer. Staff clarified that prices are unchanged from last year and attributed the revenue increase mainly to higher volume and an extra holiday week earlier in the season.

Committee members raised concerns about day‑to‑day operations, including lifeguard coverage and sticker‑checking at busy times. The Staff member said rotations, breaks and occasional absences explain some midday gaps but added the department is "fully staffed" overall and will reallocate staff where needed.

Staff said ongoing maintenance — broken stairs, a ripped soap dispenser and occasional debris — is handled promptly by cleaners and DPW and that the chain of communication for repairs has been effective. The committee asked for more detailed incident statistics, which staff said they would share at a future meeting.
