Sandcastle contest set for Aug. 2; organizers seek volunteer judges and registrants

The Beach Committee announced a sandcastle contest scheduled for Aug. 2 and asked members to help recruit volunteers and distribute flyers across town.

A Presenter described four award categories — little builders/young, rising artists, master builders and community creators/family — with prizes for first and second place. The event is planned around low tide (around 7 p.m.), with building from roughly 7 to 10 p.m., judging at 10 p.m. and awards around 10:30 p.m. Registration is open online.

Organizers requested two volunteer judges per category (eight judges total) to ensure coverage if someone is unable to attend; they noted laminated posters and flyers have been placed in restrooms and other public venues and that committee members should help distribute leftover materials. Staff will handle registration and logistics on the night of the event.

Committee members agreed to share flyers in their neighborhoods and to finalize registration staffing; no formal action was required.
